YORKSTONE FOR WALLING
Yorkstone walling is available as New york chopped face" "New York dressed" "New York sawn" or "old York dressed" or chopped or "random walling".
Supplied as ,sawn to a specific bed size, usually 3inch or 4 inch,, or in random bed sizes. Random walling is suplied as natural shaped boulders.
YORKSTONE SAWN OR DRESSED FINISH: Sawn yorkstone has a face that has been machine sawn flat and smooth, usually used on new buildings or to replace old stonework. Usually however for garden and domestic walling yorkstone is supplied as "Dressed or chopped walling". Chopped means the stone has been fed throgh a guillotine or block splitter. The resulting face of the stone wall will have a rocky but slightly uneven finish. To make the finish more rocky and even the stone can be "Dressed" by hand, (with hammer and chisel) to make a neater more attractive finish. This type of bedded york walling can be successfully undertaken by most skilled bricklayers.
RANDOM OR NATURAL FACED YORKSTONE: Is simply using random shaped boulders to create an attractive rustic wall. This is a skilled job and should only be undertaken by a skiiled stonemason.
OLD RECLAIMED YORKSTONE WALLING: Often called "old london york" is made by feeding old york paving slabs throgh a block splitter to form rough faced walling blocks.
These blocks can be used "chopped face" or "dressed face"
NEW YORKSTONE - SAWN TO SIZE: Sawn york has been machine cut to reasonably accurate sizes, this gives smooth edgeS and smooth straight joints. New yorkstone is generally much easier to work with than old york, but the colour of the stone may not have the same variation available in old york.
OLD YORKSTONE WALLING is among the most beautiful of natural rustic stones. The colours can vary from gold to buff and grey to blue. However it is more difficult to work with than new york, the beds will be in uneven sizes, the stone will probably much harder to cut and dress.
RANDOM (CRAZY WALLING) YORKSTONE: Will almost always be new yorkstone.
